Artist Statement

I am an oil paint-based painter and studio artist. Through my work, I am interested in exploring the permeable relationship between object, artificiality, and nature. Particularly interested in how these notions of the natural and unnatural as they pertain to queerness and gender.

Many of my pieces include staged props and/or a figure in naturalistic environments creating contrast between artificial reality and nature. My painterly style is informed by late nineteenth-century academic movements. I am particularly inspired by the Pre-Raphaelites and the artists associated with the aesthetics movement in Victorian Britain. Like these groups, my paintings play with both satire and sentimentality by elevating seemingly mundane subject matter.
